Murree Tragedy: Shehbaz demands PM's resignation, establishment of judicial commission

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – President Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan should give resignation and a judicial commission must be formulated. He said this while referring to the Murree tragedy.

While addressing the National Assembly session, he said that the government is responsible for deaths of 23 people. The country will not forgive the incumbent government. The Meteorological Department had warned of heavy snowfall, why the government did not make arrangements, what arrangements were made to stop the people on the expressway, did the government issue a red alert which was badly needed. There was no snow removal machinery, poor people kept looking at the sky, there was no one in Murree, surely death is from Allah, it was the worst incompetence and mismanagement.

The opposition leader added that thousands were stranded with no one to help for 20 hours, whether it was a natural disaster or a human error. There was no arrangement in Murree.

He went on to say that in areas like Murree, issues are solved every year, billions of machinery were called in the city. The PML-N government had created SOPs regarding Murree. On behalf of the entire House, I condemn the tragic incident in Murree. Thousands of people were stuck in vehicles for 20 hours in Murree.

Moreover, he further added that the federal government during its three and a half years walled off the opposition. The problems will only be resolved once the judicial commission is established. The government committee cannot resolve these problems.

Earlier today, President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Mian Shehbaz Sharif said that farmers are being forced to buy urea from black market at inflated price.

Shehbaz Sharif, in a tweet, said that farming are being pushed to go from pillar to pole in search of urea fertilizer and despite tall claims of the government, the crisis is still persisting even after several weeks.

The opposition leader said that shortage of urea will be disastrous for country’s farmers. All this government can do is to make tall claims, he added.
